My Story

Hi. I'm Cary.

I started hosting in 2015 welcoming many hundreds of guests and making lots of new friends. My family and I had returned from living as volunteers at a homeless resource center.  We started programs in biking, winter sports and nonviolent communication. I felt transformed by the power of collaboration and shared experience.  I believe in the power of connection and community around fun and relaxation so I started hosting. I wanted to offer an "experience" and not just a room. People love it.  My passionate mom of three grown boys, gardener, cyclist, world traveling volunteer and wellness advocate stories came out around the campfire and I  heard yours. What an honor.

I hope this peaked your curiosity. Come stay. Pull up a chair by the fire, walk a trail, watch the busy wildlife from our lovely log porch, nap in a hammock, eat lobster or nibble from my garden...whatever nourishes you. You will find it here. See you soon!

Community and Commonalities

If you thought “groovy” was a word of the past, you haven’t met Cary Huggins, Trips for Kids MidCoast Maine chapter leader. She and her husband Joe raised their children in some unique settings including a painted school bus affectionately called the “Hippie Bus”. The flower power theme started when they migrated from New England to El Paso expecting their now 21 year old son. In this border city, they first saw how these colorful duds connected them in community when language and culture might have hindered. That’s only the beginning of their unique story.

Characters of the County: Take a Trip to Happy Hippy Lane on Westport Island

About a quarter of the way down Westport Island’s main road, “Happy Hippy Lane” offers travelers a groovy place to stay and soak up some positive vibes.

Cary Huggins has provided lots of lodging on her property as an Airbnb host for the past seven years, but the “Hippy Bus” has always been a favorite, she said during an interview on April 26.

“I started doing Airbnb and then I started fooling around with the bus, and that became the hit,” Huggins said.

Drop me a line. I'd love to hear from you.
